DESCRIPTION:Presented by Dr. Scott Giacomucci\, DSW\, LCSW\, BCD\, CGP\, FAAETS\, TEP \n\n\nDates: Friday\, September 18\, 2026 – Sunday\, September 20\, 2026 8:30AM – 5:30PM (Sunday until 3:30PM)– 21 CE Hours \nCost: $675 Professionals | $465 students (*write to us if cost is your only barrier) \nFriday Only Option (7 CEs) – Cost: $250 Professionals | $165 Students \nLocation: Phoenix Center – 524 N. Providence Road Media\, PA 19063 \n21 CE Hours for NBCC\, and PA social workers\, counselors\, MFTs\, & Psychologists | 21 training hours provided towards experiential and psychodrama certifications. \n(This workshop is included in the 2026 Trauma-Informed Psychodrama Training Program.) \nAbout the Workshop\nThis experiential training explores the intersection of addiction\, defenses\, and psychodrama. Addiction is often rooted in pain\, trauma\, and shame and protected by layers of psychological defenses. These defense mechanisms and protector parts help with survival\, safety\, and comfort\, but may block insight\, connection\, or change. This workshop offers a trauma-informed and strengths-based framework for working with defenses in psychodrama. Participants will learn how to work in action with various types of defenses to promote recovery from trauma\, addiction\, and mental health. \nAction methods such as doubling\, role reversal\, and concretization will be demonstrated as tools to explore one’s relationship to defenses while preserving client safety and autonomy. Theoretical concepts from Moreno\, psychodynamic theory\, and trauma-informed care will be integrated into the teaching and practice. \nLearning Objectives:\n\nIdentify multiple psychodramatic interventions for working with defenses\nDescribe at least two sociometric exercises for exploring defenses in a group\nExplain the value of psychodrama for addiction treatment and recovery\n\nBy purchasing tickets and registering for this event\, you confirm that you agree with the Phoenix Center’s Informed Consent for Experiential Training Workshops and our workshop\, cancellation\, and refund policies. \n\nTo Register for this Workshop\nPlease complete Steps 1 and 2.  Registration is not confirmed until payment is received.\nStep 1: Pay for the event by using our Paypal Payment System (you can enter a credit card as a payment option). \n01234567891011121314151617181920Professional Registration for 9/18-26-9/20/26 - Psychodrama\, Addiction\, and Defenses: From Protection to Connection675.00 USD01234567891011121314151617181920Student Registration for 9/18-26-9/20/26 - Psychodrama\, Addiction\, and Defenses: From Protection to Connection465.00 USD012345678910Friday Only Option for 9/18-26-9/20/26 - Psychodrama\, Addiction\, and Defenses: From Protection to Connection250.00 USDYour eTicket will be emailed after payment to your PayPal email address.\nStep 2: Fill out the registration form using the same email you used for Paypal. \n \nStep 3: You will hear from us with a confirmation email (the same one you used for PayPal and registration) indicating your registration and information about the event in a few days. All materials will be directed to the same email address including your certificate. \n\nImportant Information\n*Please note that this is workshop will include both didactic and experiential learning components. The experiential learning structures include demonstrations of psychodrama and other experiential processes which often include (optional) personal disclosures from participants. While personal growth is often a byproduct of experiential learning in psychodrama\, the primary purpose of this workshop is training. If you are seeking a workshop for personal growth or seeking a professional training event that is entirely didactic (lecture/powerpoint)\, this is probably not the best workshop for you. \nFor folks traveling from out of town\, there is a new beautiful bed and breakfast just 1 block from the Phoenix Center that we recommend. It is within walking distance of downtown Media and plenty of shops/restaurants – https://www.gifford-risleyhouse.com. Mention Phoenix Center for a reduced rate. \nNo Conflicts of Interest or outside commercial support have been declared by the presenter or others involved in the program. \nThis workshop is designed primarily for psychologists\, social workers\, counselors\, and therapists but other professionals may also find it helpful. The instruction designed at the intermediate level (though many new and advanced professionals may also find it helpful). \nCE Program Policies and Procedures related to Refunds/Cancellations\, Grievances\, and Conflicts of Interest can be found here. \nFor the workshop schedule or other details or questions about the workshop\, please contact us at Support@PhoenixTraumaCenter.com. \n___________________________________________________________________________________________________________ \nContinuing Education (CE) Approval Statements relevant to this workshop:\n\nContinuing Education (CE) Approval Statements relevant to this workshop:\n\nPhoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy\, LLC (Lic. #004115) has been approved as a pre-approved provider of professional continuing education for social workers (Section 47.36)\, Marriage and Family Therapist (Section 48.36) and Professional Counselors (Section 49.36) by the PA State Board of Social Workers\, Marriage & Family Therapists and Professional Counselors.\nPhoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy is approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychologists (Lic. # PSY000215) to offer continuing education for psychologists.\nPhoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy\, LLC has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider\, ACEP No. 7013. SUMMARY:Free Webinar: The Green Light Problem with A. Michael Blanche
DESCRIPTION:Facilitated by: A. Michael Blanche\, MSS\, LCSW\nDate: Wednesday\, September 30\, 2026\nCost: Free\nLocation: Virtual/Zoom\nCE Hours: 1 CE Hour for NBCC\, PA SW\, LPC\, LMFT\, and Psychologists\, PA SW\, LPC\, LMFT\, and Psychologists\, PA SW\, LPC\, LMFT\, and Psychologists\, PA SW\, LPC\, LMFT\, and Psychologists \nAbout the Workshop\nCannabis use and cultural attitudes toward it have shifted dramatically over the past decade\, while public understanding of its psychiatric risks has not kept pace. National survey data show that the percentage of high school seniors who view regular marijuana use as risky has declined significantly over the past two decades\, even as the potency of available cannabis products has risen several-fold and clinical evidence linking high-potency\, high-frequency use to psychotic disorders has strengthened. In Pennsylvania specifically\, the medical cannabis program has grown from zero dispensaries in 2016 to a market of 190+ licensed dispensaries generating billions in annual sales\, alongside an unregulated retail layer of hemp-derived intoxicants sold without age verification in many settings. This rapid commercialization has outpaced public health messaging\, parental awareness\, and — in many cases — clinicians’ own working knowledge of current risk data. \nMental health therapists and trauma specialists are increasingly encountering clients\, particularly adolescents and young adults\, whose cannabis use is minimized by themselves\, their families\, or the surrounding culture as low-risk or medically sanctioned. At the same time\, emerging clinical and epidemiological research points to a measurable rise in cannabis-induced psychosis presentations in emergency departments and psychiatric units\, particularly among daily users of high-potency products. Without current\, evidence-based training\, clinicians risk either overlooking a significant and growing risk factor in their caseloads or relying on outdated\, moralized framing that undermines therapeutic rapport. This course addresses that gap directly. \nThis session presents a fact-based examination of the misinformation and cultural minimization shaping how cannabis is understood today\, with a clinical focus on cannabis-induced psychosis: its presentation\, its distinction from primary psychotic disorders\, its long-term diagnostic significance\, and the population-level trends driving its rise. The course introduces a three-part framework — the erosion of parental disapproval\, the expansion of accessibility\, and the loss of perceived consequence — to help clinicians understand why risk perception has shifted\, using Pennsylvania’s cannabis commercialization timeline as a concrete case study. Participants will review current peer-reviewed research on THC potency trends\, psychosis risk ratios\, and psychiatric hospitalization data\, and will leave with a practical framework for clinical assessment\, psychoeducation\, and referral. \nLearning Objectives\n\nIdentify at least three common cultural and clinical misconceptions about cannabis that minimize its psychiatric risk\, and explain the evidence that contradicts them.\nDescribe the clinical presentation of cannabis-induced psychosis (CIP)\, including onset patterns\, high-risk populations\, and its distinction from primary psychotic disorders.\nExplain the three eroded deterrents (parental consent/disapproval\, restricted accessibility\, perceived consequence) and how their loss has changed risk exposure for adolescents and young adults.\nApply a clinical framework for assessing cannabis use\, potency exposure\, and psychosis risk in session\, including when to refer for higher levels of care.\n\n \nAbout the Facilitator\nA.
