DESCRIPTION:Vicarious Post-Traumatic Growth for Mental Health Professionals: A Free Peer Support Workshop for Self-Care and Community \n\n*This is a peer-support group\, not a CEU event. \nAbout our bi-monthly workshop series:  \nBurnout\, compassion fatigue\, and vicarious trauma are on the rise for mental health professionals. The importance of self-care\, peer-support\, and community are evident for those working in the field. We must attend to our own needs in order to best support the clients and communities that we work with. This workshops series (every other month) will focus on validating the experience of mental health professionals and cultivating vicarious post-traumatic growth – the phenomenon of professionals growing (personally and professionally) as a result of working with clients who have experienced trauma and adversity. These workshops are open to anyone who is a mental health professional (therapists\, social workers\, supervisors\, caseworkers\, support staff\, administrators\, educators\, marketers\, etc.). Each session will be facilitated by a Phoenix Center staff member employing various experiential group processes to promote peer support\, connection\, and restoration. \nNext Session: \nDate & Time: Monday June 6\, 2022\, from 6:30-8:30pm \nLocation: Phoenix Center for Experiential Trauma Therapy\, 524 N. Providence Road Media PA 19063 (in lower floor event space) \nAll participants must register in advance. \nREGISTER HERE  \n Space is limited to 25 participants per workshop. Spots are first come\, first serve basis. \nJune’s workshop is led by Brian Gallagher\, MSW\, LSW\n \nBrian Gallagher\, MSW\, LSW\, is a Phoenix Center trauma therapist who first learned peer-counseling as a high school student at the age of 16. He has practiced this profound process since then\, as both a client and a counselor\, and understands some key things about how we get hurt and how we heal. \nMore information on Employing a Peer-Counseling Model workshop:  \nProfessional Healing Partnerships (PHPs) are relationships in which therapeutic professionals exchange listening time with one another to help each other more deeply process the vicarious trauma they experience in their practice. Using a unique\, trauma-informed peer-counseling model that understands our innate physiological healing mechanisms\, PHPs allow people to deliberately and responsibly engage cathartic and restorative processes to release physical and emotional tension\, leaving them with more free\, relaxed attention for their work and relationships. \nRegistration required: Space is limited to 25 participants. Sociometry tools will be employed with their unique capacity to promote connection after loss. Psychodrama will be presented with emphasis on its ability to renegotiate grief/loss and promote resolution or closure. Parallels in history\, theory\, philosophy\, and practice with individuals\, groups\, and communities will be outlined. Psychodrama and sociometry offer social workers practical tools that are action-based and can be modified for any setting – individual work\, group therapy\, education\, community organizing\, and organizational leadership. DESCRIPTION:The Time is Right for Social Work\nNational Association of Social Workers Annual Conference \nOnmi Shoreham Hotel\, Washington DC \nOpening Plenary Panel – Thursday June 23rd\, 8:30 – 10:00am – The Time is Right for Social Work \nThis opening plenary will include multiple panelists including Dr. Scott Giacomucci among other plenary panelists. \nWorking Description of Plenary Session:\nThe plenary session\, The Time is Right for Social Work is a topic of immediate importance to social workers and all Americans. Social workers are facing extreme challenges such as COVID-19 pandemic\, systemic racism\, economic inequality\, climate change\, and other crises.  At present\, there are nearly 720\,000 social workers in the United States. That number is expected to grow by 12 percent by the end of the decade\, making social work one of the fastest growing professions in the nation\, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Social workers have played an integral role in securing passage of some of the most important issues of our time including the Civil Rights and Women’s Rights movements and pushed for social programs we now take for granted\, including the minimum wage\, a 40-hour work week\, Social Security and Medicare. The objective of The Time is Right for Social Work plenary session is to discuss the implications of these and other issues to America and world and how social work will continue to play a lead role in addressing resolutions.
