Social Work, Sociometry, & Psychodrama: Experiential Approaches for Social Workers

This lecture will provide an introduction to the similarities between the field of social work and the practice of psychodrama and sociometry. Parallels in history, theory, philosophy, and practice with individuals, groups, and communities will be outlined. Psychodrama and sociometry offer social workers practical tools that are action-based and can be modified for any setting – individual work, group therapy, education, community organizing, and organizational leadership. Content will include emphasis on the themes of strengths-based approach and trauma-informed philosophy. Social work core values of the importance of relationships, social justice, and honoring the dignity and worth of each person will be highlighted as they relate to psychodrama and sociometry.
