 About The Workshop:

Interested in how clients with trauma histories and (C)PTSD can benefit from Internal Family Systems (IFS) approaches? In this workshop, we’ll learn how to apply concepts of IFS to clinical work with special attention on the impacts of trauma and experience of (C)PTSD. We’ll identify symptoms as presentations of parts and learn how parts take on various burdens. You’ll learn how to Integrate IFS approaches to trauma into your current practice. Experiential exercises and guided practice will deepen our learning.

This training workshop is for therapists and mental health workers in both trauma-informed and trauma-focused settings and is for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Explain basic concepts of IFS and how they apply to working with trauma
  2. Describe burdens and how parts carry them
  3. Describe how our internal world organizes in response to trauma

*Please note that this is workshop will include both didactic and experiential learning components. The experiential learning structures include demonstrations of experiential processes which often include (optional) personal disclosures from participants. While personal growth is often a byproduct of experiential learning, the primary purpose of this workshop is training. If you are seeking a workshop for personal growth or seeking a professional training event that is entirely didactic (lecture/powerpoint), this is probably not the best workshop for you.

This workshop is designed primarily for psychologists, social workers, counselors, and therapists but other professionals may also find it helpful. The instruction designed at the introductory level (though many intermediate and advanced professionals may also find it helpful).
