About the Workshop:
This half-day workshop aims to integrate Gender Affirming Care into the six Trauma-Informed Care Principles to create affirming practices for transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse clients. We will explore how to create trust and transparency, build safer emotional spaces, and navigate changes to Gender Affirming Care. While all six trauma-informed care principles will be highlighted, this workshop will prioritize the trauma-informed care principle of safety. This workshop will include both didactic and experiential learning components. This workshop is best suited for mental health professionals working, or wanting to work with, transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse clients.
Learning Objectives
1. Describe the six trauma-informed care principles
2. Understand basic gender-affirming care practices
3. Discuss ways to incorporate gender-affirming practices into current models of care
4. Understand re-traumatization and how that impacts and influences clients’ access to care
