Education & Training

Chris (he/him) is an educator who is passionate about creating safer spaces for individuals to learn and grow, both professionally and personally. Chris is affirming of LGBTQIA+ individuals and adaptive to those needing support with social anxiety and non-traditional learning methods. Adult learning and continuing education have been embedded in Chris’ professional career and has always been his favorite aspect of any role he has held. As someone who struggles with reading comprehension, but thrives with hands on learning, Chris strives to incorporate various learning techniques in his workshops and prioritizes practice-based learning. Knowing that some of the most valuable opportunities for learning arise from first-hand experience, Chris finds that all of us have valuable information to share and knowledge doesn’t just come from formal education.

Chris has over a decade of experience designing and facilitating training programs for both large and small organizations. Some of Chris’ past training topics include: Trauma-Informed Care, Supporting LGBTQIA+ Clients (specifically Transgender and Non-Binary), Sexual Violence, Mandatory Reporting, Ethics and Values, Capacity & Competency, Aging-Related Care, and Caregiving. Chris is also seeking to expand his experience with Medical Related Trauma, Chronic Pain/Illness, and Neurodiversity.

Chris spent 16 years at The Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, and 14 of those years in the Older Adult Protective Services Department. Chris then managed a Sexual Violence program in New Jersey for a few years before joining The Phoenix Center. Chris has been in non-profit management positions for the last 10 years and can provide effective strategies for building both cohesive and trauma-informed teams.

With supervision and hands-on experience from Dr. Scott Giacomucci, Chris is offering Workplace Wellness Workshops and can provide training on a variety of topics, especially those listed above. Coaching

Coaching is a way to receive individual support for shorter term challenges. Coaching provides psycho-education, emotional support, and is solution focused.  The goal of coaching is to help you navigate your current challenge, build and utilize the right tools to reach your goals, and leave feeling empowered, confident, and supported. Coaching is offered at a lower rate than therapy sessions and is not intended to be utilized long term or replace therapy.  Average coaching sessions can range from one month to six months, and if a need for therapy arises during coaching sessions, Chris will be able to connect you to a clinician equipped to provide support or find appropriate referral source.

Chris received a Master of Science from The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2015 and is enrolled in ___ Coaching Certification Course. He receives individual, bi-weekly supervision from The Phoenix Center Director, Scott Giacomucci and attends the same weekly group supervisions as our therapists, which includes participation in case consultations.  His practice is trauma-informed and centered around a strengths-based approach. Chris attended and graduated from the Pennsylvania Department of Aging’s Leadership Development Institute and provides trainings on a variety of topics related to trauma.

Chris would be a good fit for anyone seeking support with caregiving, end of life decisions, support parents of LGBTQIA+ children, LGBTQIA+ identity, especially those who are transgender and non-binary, accessing services for survivors of sexual violence, those struggling with chronic illness or chronic pain, individuals navigating traumatic or complex medical experiences and clients who are neurodiverse.
